Mike Tyson, Undisputed Truth

What did I really know about Mike Tyson?  I knew he was the greatest boxer of my generation, I knew he was a beast and I knew he was always getting in trouble.   Not a very broad view of him at all, especially since I saw him being very aggressive with a girl at a club called 2ii's many years ago.  It was a small lounge on 14th street where they had some good hip hop parties. My friends and I used to see him all the time out and about in the club scene and he always looked a little crazy.  As he admitted to being so at his Broadway play.

He held nothing back and was so honest and at peace with all the decisions in his life.  The good and bad, he talked about it like a outsider looking in.  He was a little hard on himself but in a way that the audience could look at him and be like, "It's ok Mike, we understand".   It's exactly how I felt when I walked away, I understood Mike Tyson and I wanted to hear more.

The best story of the night was when he was talking about Robin Givens.  She is his ex wife who he called a Gold Digger by playing Kanye's song and dancing along to it.   He caught her creeping around with BRAD PITT and he told the story about how Brad Pitt was shook when he saw Mike.  So funny!

Two moments brought me to tears...  When he spoke about his mom and her death and about the death of his daughter.   He ended each segment with a death and his thoughts on it.   He's been sober for 3 years, low and behold he was addicted to cocaine and had a serious problem with it.  He's said he's beat it for now but the need for it always creeps in at his darkest times.   His mother was a alcoholic so he inherited his addiction gene from her.   He said she died from Cancer but he believed she really died from a broken heart.     His mom came up to NYC from down south with dreams and aspirations of being someone and making it but that is not how it worked out for her.

I want to say more but it's really something someone needs to see to fully enjoy.   It was a great night, I got to hang out with my friends and I always love being in NYC.

Thank you Mike for sharing with us your Undisputed Truth.

You're Mean
